Alice Marie Swartz

Alice Marie Swartz, 86, of Berrien Springs, died Friday, January 20, 2017, at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.

Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday, January 24, at Allred Funeral Home in Berrien Springs, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.  Donations in Alice’s name may be made to the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan, and online memories may be shared at www.allredfuneralhome.com.

Alice was born April 17, 1930, in Grafton, West Virginia, the daughter of Fred and Nellie (Lambert) Shingleton.  She had retired from the Berrien County Intermediate School District where she had been a school bus attendant for special needs students.

Surviving are her husband, James Swartz, whom she married on June 26, 1949, in Stevensville; two daughters, Sandra Swartz and Jamie Spletzer (Mike Mantke) of Berrien Springs; six grandchildren: Melissa Davis (Mike Acevedo), Heather Belin, Christopher Belin (Julie), Dustin Spletzer, Ashley Hicks (Jared), Lauren Streelman (Jason); 13 great-grandchildren: Cody Davis (Audie), Levi Davis (Jansen), Sadie Belin, Nolan Stover, Corbin Belin, Jack Antonini, Gabriel Belin, Emma Belin, Stone Belin, Vincent Imler, Daniella Hicks, Hunter Hicks, Briella Streelman; and two great-great-grandchildren: Bentley Davis and LeaAnna Davis.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Belin; sons-in-law, William Belin and Wayne Spletzer; and great-granddaughter, Amber Belin.
