Allen Lee Hathcoat

December 8, 1949 — August 28, 2022

Allen Lee Hathcoat, 72, of Fennville, died Aug. 28, 2022. Beloved by all who knew him, he led a life of service to his family, friends, community and country.

Allen served in the US Army, and following his active duty service, continued to serve his fellow veterans through his involvement in the American Legion. After a 26-year long career, he retired from Haworth, Inc. Following his retirement, Allen continued to serve his community, delivering hot meals, and a friendly smile, to homebound seniors.

As a 30+ year cancer survivor, Allen was keenly aware of the power of medical science and human kindness. As his final act of service, he donated his organs to Gift of Life Michigan so that others may have a chance at a longer, better life.

Allen enjoyed a life full of love, humor and happiness. A frequent traveler, his favorite places to visit included Hawaii and the Bahamas. He was a big University of Michigan football fan and enjoyed going to ComicCons with his granddaughter. But perhaps his favorite pastime took place in his own backyard. He lovingly tended his home, yard and pool, creating the perfect place to host hundreds of gatherings with friends and family throughout the years. Those gatherings live on as beautiful memories that will bring joy and comfort to all who knew and loved Allen.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Susan Hathcoat; daughter, Cynthia Schwartz; grandchildren: Haley Kasinger, Zachary Schwartz, Hayden Fee; mother, Norma Reeves; sisters, Brenda Anderson and Char Krause; brother, Gary Hathcoat; numerous adoring nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Hathcoat, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Genung and Charlotte Bailey. Allen’s family is comforted knowing he is reunited with these family members in Heaven.

Family and friends will gather for a celebration of life memorial service on Saturday, Sept. 3, at the American Legion Post 85, 112 N. Bluff St., Berrien Springs. Gathering for visitation begins at 11 a.m., the service at 1 p.m., and a light luncheon immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Allen’s name to the American Legion Post 85, American Cancer Society or Gift of Life Michigan. Condolences and comments can be posted online at www.allredfuneralhome.com.
