Avonda Mae White-Krause, a beacon of love and laughter, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024, in St. Joseph, Michigan. Born on August 31, 1939, Avonda's life was a tapestry woven with faith, education, and an unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Avonda's journey began as the cherished daughter of Francis A. Nickless and Mary (Ellsworth) Nickless. Her formative years were spent in the halls of Fayetteville High School, where the seeds of her lifelong love for learning were planted. Avonda's academic pursuits flourished as she attended Lake Michigan College, Western Michigan University, where she studied Special Education, and Michigan State University, focusing on Teaching & Learning. Her passion for education was not just a career but a calling that she answered every day of her life.
Her professional path was marked by a commitment to service, starting as a secretary to Dr. Gustin in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Avonda's heart, however, found its true home at Blossomland Learning Center, where she dedicated 28 years to nurturing the minds and spirits of countless students. Her work was not just a job but a manifestation of her love for helping others grow.
Avonda's life was rich with love, not only for her vocation but also for her family. She was a loving partner to her husband, Robert Krause, and a guiding light to her children, Robert (Crystal) White and Malinda (Sherman) Walker, and her stepchildren, Robert (Valerie) Krause, and Diana (Rudy) Shafer. Her brothers, Michael (Lynne) Nickless and John (Marcie) Nickless, stood by her as pillars of support throughout her life. Avonda's legacy continues through her adoring grandchildren, Jack, Heather, Rebekah, Charles, Jacob, Alex, Allison, and Dustin, and her eightteen great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her teachings and love.
Avonda's life was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Charles White, her brother Austin Nickless, her sisters Irene Ronk and Frances Hutton, her granddaughter Asta Dadles, and her great-granddaughter Michelle Walker. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and their memories were cherished until her last breath.
Beyond her family and career, Avonda's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. She found solace in the pages of a good book, joy in the blooms of her garden, and satisfaction in the creations she crafted with her hands, whether it was through crocheting, sewing, or navigating the digital world on her computer. Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her through life's challenges and celebrations, and her church community was a source of strength and fellowship.
Those who knew Avonda will remember her for her loving nature, her infectious humor, and her unwavering faith. She was a woman who saw the good in people, the beauty in the world, and the humor in life's everyday moments. Her laughter was a melody that echoed in the hearts of those she touched, and her presence was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
