Barbara Nadine Hamlin

July 1, 1936 — January 28, 2025

Saginaw

Barbara Nadine Hamlin passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 28, 2025, at the age of 88, in Midland, Michigan. Born on July 1, 1936, in Six Lakes, Michigan, Barbara was the youngest of 7 children born to Harry and Ethel Medford.

Barbara was still young when they moved to a farm in Lakeview, Michigan. She was raised in the Seventh-day Adventist Church and graduated from Cedar Lake Academy as a member of the class of 1954. She worked as a telephone switchboard operator at Hinsdale Sanitarium in Hinsdale, Illinois. Also working in the Sanitarium was an orderly named Walter Hamlin, and the two met. She and Walter Hamlin were married December 29, 1957.

For many years, Barbara worked in the Undergraduate Records Office at Andrews University and later worked in the Lake Union Conference Office.

Beyond her professional life, Barbara was an avid reader, played the piano beautifully, and sewed well. She and Walter raised a multiple-acre garden for many years.

Barbara and Walter had hearts devoted to the mission outreach of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. When still a young and struggling family, they gave a large donation to the mission work in New Guinea, and over the years, supported many different projects, from the local Your Story Hour to the Pacific islands, including funds to build 3 churches and drill adjacent water wells in the mission field in Africa.

Barbara is survived by three children: Rick Hamlin, Connie Hickman, and Carol Parris, 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ethel Medford, her husband Walter, her sisters Dorothy Snow and Gladys Medford, her 4 brothers Robert Medford, Lester Medford, Foster Medford, and Ronald Medford, her youngest daughter, Judy Bland, and one grandchild: Ricky Hamlin, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to 3 Angels Broadcasting Network and Your Story Hour.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Allred Funeral Home in Berrien Springs, Michigan. A graveside service will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs on Thursday February 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM.
