Benjamin Baker, aged 91, of Berrien Springs, peacefully departed this life in the comfort of his home on February 10, 2024.
A modest, intimate private ceremony will be held for immediate family members, while a broader community commemoration is planned in the forthcoming months, honoring both Benjamin and his beloved wife Rita, who departed on October 31, 2022.
Born on November 16, 1932, on the island of Carriacou Grenada, West Indies, Ben's journey led him through Trinidad and the island of St. Vincent, where he met his cherished wife of nearly six decades. In the late 1960s, he pursued his graduate studies at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, ultimately deciding to make it his permanent residence. There, he embarked on a fulfilling career as an educator at Benton Harbor High School, dedicating approximately 28 years to shaping young minds. Upon retirement, he embraced a tranquil existence, nurturing his passion for gardening and woodworking, always ready to lend a hand to those in need. A stalwart member of Pioneer Memorial Church in Berrien Springs, Ben's faith was central to his life.
He leaves behind three sons, 12 grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren, a testament to the enduring legacy of love and family that he and Rita built together.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Allred Funeral Home. Please feel free to leave a message for the family on Allred’s website on the tribute wall for Benjamin.
