Betty Jean Murphy

Betty Jean Murphy, 91, of Berrien Springs, died Friday, April 28, 2017, at Brentwood at Niles in Niles, Michigan.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, at Allred Funeral Home, Berrien Springs, where friends may visit from noon until service time. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Berrien Springs. Online memories may be left at www.allredfuneralhome.com. Memorial donations may be made to Michigan Natural Features Inventory (MNFI), a program of Michigan State University Extension.

Betty was born June 4, 1925, in Berrien Center, the daughter of Gordon and Bonita (Hoadley) Murphy. She graduated from Dowagiac High School. In addition to caring for her family, she had worked as a secretary for Clark Equipment Company. She also volunteered for Berrien General Hospital’s Auxiliary and The Journal Era newspaper, and she was a member of the American Legion Post 85 Auxiliary. In her leisure time, she enjoyed working in her yard. Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Mark (Linda) Boehm of Niles and Scott (Sharon) Boehm of Buchanan; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Gordon Boehm and James Boehm; two sisters, Barbara and Margaret; and a brother, William Tatman.
