Bruce Robert Block passed away on November 6, 2023. Born in his parents home on September 20,
1936, in Manistee, MI.
Raised by his loving parents, Bernard and Florence Block, Bruce was the youngest of five sons. His
brothers, Merle, Jack, Neil, and Don, filled their home with laughter and camaraderie. Although his
parents and three brothers, Merle, Jack, and Neil, preceded him in death, his brother Don remains to
uphold their family legacy.
Bruce's journey to education began at Cedar Lake Academy, where he graduated in 1955. He started
Emmanuel Missionary College in 1957, before embarking on his vocation as a teacher in Indiana. His
commitment to education brought him back to Andrews University in the 70's, where he completed his
Bachelor's in Elementary Education.
For over 30 years, Bruce dedicated his life to shaping young minds at Seventh-day Adventist schools. His
dedication to his calling was matched only by his devotion to his beloved wife, Janice Hill. The two were
joined in marriage on August 11, 1957, at the Courthouse in Berrien Springs, which served as the Village
SDA Church at the time. Their union was a testament to their faith and love, as he became a loving
caregiver for his wife when she was stricken with MS.
Bruce's life was a testament to the power of love and faith. He was a man who found joy in the simple
pleasures of life - a good book, a well-cooked meal, and trips to the beach. But it was in the classroom
where Bruce truly thrived. His passion for education, his dedication to his students unwavering. He was
a teacher in the truest sense of the word, imparting not just knowledge, but wisdom and values that
would guide his students throughout their lives.
Bruce is survived by his three children, Greg (Karen) Block, Robin (John) Goodridge, and Brian Block, who
carry on his legacy of love and faith. His lineage continues to flourish with his five grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren.
As we bid farewell to our beloved Bruce, we do so with the knowledge that his spirit lives on in the
hearts of those he touched, in the minds of those he taught, and in those he loved. His was a life well-
lived, a life of purpose, a life of impact. He now rests waiting for the resurrection morning.
