Carma Lucille Moore

June 22, 1924 — August 29, 2018

After a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s, Carma Lucille Moore, 94, of Berrien Springs went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018.

She was born June 22, 1924, in Enola, Ark., the daughter of Rufus and Bessie (Phillips) Casey. In March 1945, Carma married Vernon E. Moore, and they moved from Arkansas to Michigan in 1951.

Carma’s life was a testament to the grace, power, and glory of Jesus Christ. She shared her faith through hymns, discussions of the Bible, and the daily life she led.

A product of the Great Depression and then World War II, Carma valued hard work and sacrifice before Alzheimer’s robbed her of her memory and skills. Her children thank her for the example she set.

She enjoyed quilting, working outside, spending time with family and friends, and making southern-style meals, including homemade biscuits and chocolate gravy. No one ever left her table hungry or with a complaint.

Survivors include Carma and Vernon’s five children: Harold (Sally) Moore of Owasso, Okla., Shirley (Dave) Mitchell of Niles, Evonne McDannell of Three Oaks, Tim (Patti) Moore of Niles, and Jim Moore of Berrien Springs; three brothers: Faber Casey of Salem, Ark., Russell Casey of La Porte, Ind., and Randell Casey of Vilonia, Ark.; five sisters: Mildred Archer of Berrien Springs, Hazel Fairchild of North Little Rock, Ark., Margie Widner of Doniphan, Mo., Norma Jane Varner of Vilonia, and Jewell Quesnel of Sherwood, Ark. In addition to this large, loving family, Carma was blessed with nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon; brothers: Quention, Elwood, and Norwood Casey; and sisters: Ruby Kliemchen, Climie Curtis, and Ollie Merle Casey.

The family wishes to express its gratitude to the caring staff at Forest Glen Assisted Living in Dowagiac. Memorial donations may be made to Forest Glen Assisted Living for a specified item the facility needs, or to Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Allred Funeral Home in Berrien Springs. The funeral service celebrating Carma’s life will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at the funeral home, with burial following in Rose Hill Cemetery, Berrien Springs.
