Cordelia Matlock, 91, of Berrien Springs, died Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Forest Glen Assisted Living in Dowagiac.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 2, at Allred Funeral Home, Berrien Springs, with visitation 10-11 a.m. and funeral at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Berrien Springs. Cordelia was born Aug. 31, 1929, in Manila, Arkansas, to Frank and Ima (Mathney) Short. She worked in assembly for Faulkner Fabricators, and she was an avid quilter and enjoyed embroidery. She was famous for her homemade dumplings, chocolate pies and banana pudding. She was a lifetime Baptist and a member of the First Baptist Church in Berrien Springs, and she loved their music programs.
Survivors include two sons: Dowen (Belinda) Moody of Summerfield, North Carolina and Denny (Shelley) Moody of Wyoming, Michigan; four daughters: Deane (Milton) Richter of Berrien Springs, Faye (Gregory) Cole of Shelby, Ohio, Connie (Carl) Fortson of Granger, Indiana, and Donna Schrader of Berrien Springs; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands: Denton Moody in 1982 and Ernie Matlock in 2001; three brothers: Richard Lloyd Short, Franklin Short Jr., Carl Boyd Short; four sisters: Rena Hoffner, Cora Lee Looney, Mabel Gentry, Opal Karns; and son-in-law, Gary Schrader.
