Dale Herbert Simpson, age 85, of Berrien Center, died at his home on Saturday, September 30, 2017.
He was born July 5, 1932, in Chicago, the son of Ruth E. (Anderson) and Judson H. Simpson. Dale graduated from Hylandale Academy in 1950. He married Johanna B. Guthrie on April 23, 1952 in Niles. They were married for 63 years until her passing in 2015.
He served in the United States Army from 1952 through 1954 and was stationed in Virginia and Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was a non-combatant working for the army as an electrician.
After his military service, Dale worked as an electrician at AP Electric in Niles, at Cook Nuclear Plant and Delta Star Electric in South Bend, and was noted for his ingenuity. This year he received his 60-year service pin from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Dale loved music and sang in his church choir for 50 years. He enjoyed traveling, camping, and was an avid Amateur Radio Operator, having made contact with operators in over 325 countries.
Dale is survived by his two sons, Kenneth (Mary) of Berrien Center and Allen (Deborah) of Buchanan; a granddaughter, Erin (Jared) Williams of California; three grandsons, Clifford Simpson and Gregory Simpson of Michigan, and Burton Simpson of California; and his niece, Sherri (Rich) Hannon of Salt Lake City, Utah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lael Evelyn Rhino.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 7, from 2 - 4 p.m. (EST) at Allred Funeral Home in Berrien Springs, with services following at 4 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Online messages may be left for the family at www.allredfuneralhome.com.
