David Alberto Borton

June 13, 1946 — December 10, 2024

Berrien Springs

David Alberto Borton, a man of wisdom and adventure, passed away on December 10, 2024, at the age of 78, in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Born on June 13, 1946, in Argentina, David's zest for life and his unwavering spirit were evident from his early years.

David was predeceased by his loving parents, Harvey and Leticia Borton, and his older brother, Anthony Borton. He is survived by his devoted wife, Priscila Borton, who he married on June 18, 1967, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, and their six sons: David (Linda), Daniel (Sarena), Dennis (Gina), Derrick (Holly), Daryl, and Dawson. His legacy also lives on through his siblings: Miriam Borton (Atanasio), Harvey Borton, Minerva Borton, and Loyda Borton (Camacho), and his thirteen grandchildren (Jonathan, Elizabeth, Kamryn, Madlyn, Alisyn, Esperanza, Lorenzo, Ilaria, Quintin, Lilly, Jacob, Logan, and Hannah). Each family member, his large extended family, and many, many friends held a special place in David’s heart, and he cherished the time spent with them and memories created.

David's academic journey included two Masters degrees, including a Master’s in Marriage and Family Counseling and an MBA, which paved the way for a life dedicated to service and leadership. His professional life was as diverse as it was impactful. He served our country proudly as a Medic in the US Army during the Vietnam War, where, even though he didn’t carry any weapons, he was awarded a Purple Heart, a testament to his courage and patriotism. Following his military service, David answered a higher calling and became a Pastor, serving in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, touching lives with his faith and compassion. His path of service continued as he served through a variety of roles in ministry, as a Dean of Men, Educator, Counselor, and Director of Financial Aid, and included time in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and the United States. In each setting, David left an indelible mark through his commitment to helping others achieve their potential.

David's adventurous spirit was not confined to his professional endeavors. He was an avid hiker, often found traversing the rugged trails of Isle Royal and the Smoky Mountains. His love for the outdoors extended to the serene area of the Boundary Waters, where he often enjoyed camping and canoeing. A true Chicago Cubs baseball fanatic, David's enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and his loyalty to his team unwavering. Those who knew David would describe him as not only intelligent, but also adventurous. His inquisitive mind and bold spirit led him to explore, learn, and engage with the world in ways that inspired all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
