Donald Lewis Hilliard Jr., a man of strong character and a loving heart, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024, at Hanson Hospice House in Stevensville, Michigan. Born on December 11, 1948, in Jacksonville, Illinois, Donald's journey through life was marked by his dedication to his family, his passion for his interests, and his unwavering faith.
Donald was a cherished son to his late parents, Donald Lewis Hilliard, Sr. and Ora Mae (Baptist) Hilliard. He was the beloved brother to Richard Norman, Doris Capicotte, Anna Norman, and Daniel Hilliard, all of whom preceded him in death. His memory will be treasured and kept alive by his siblings Elizabeth Fleenor, David (Deborah) Hilliard, Bonnie (Darrel) Berry, and devoted wife, Lorraine (Comer) Hilliard, with whom he shared countless moments of joy and companionship.
His legacy continues through his loving children, John Hilliard (Alice) and Donna Carrick (Steven), who will remember their father for his guidance, humor, and the selfless love he extended to them throughout his life. Donald's spirit will also live on in the hearts of his four grandchildren, Kyle (Stephanie) Hilliard, Heather (Richard) Springer, Damon Manning, and Megan Manning, as well as his eleven great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
Donald's educational journey included some college, which laid the foundation for his successful career as an engineer and manager in the tool and die manufacturing industry. His professional life was characterized by a strong work ethic, innovative thinking, and the respect of his colleagues. He was not only a mentor to many in his field but also a friend to all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
Outside of work, Donald was a man of many interests. He had a lifelong love for cars and drag racing, a passion that he shared with friends and family alike. His enthusiasm for shooting sports and hunting was matched only by his skill and respect for the traditions of the outdoors. Donald's strong personality was balanced by his big heart, and he was always ready to lend a hand or share a word of encouragement.
Above all, Donald loved the Lord. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with strength and comfort. He instilled this faith in his family, and it remains a testament to his character and the values he held dear.
Those who knew Donald will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was handy, always able to fix or build anything that was needed. His selfless nature meant he often put the needs of others before his own, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we say goodbye to Donald Lewis Hilliard Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived. His impact on the world was significant, and the memories he created will be cherished forever.
