Dorothy Jeannine Snyder, 88, of Niles, died Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at West Woods of Niles.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, December 30, at the Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church. Online messages may be left at www.allredfuneralhome.com. Memorial donations may be made to the Niles Seventh-day Adventist Church School Library (for children’s books).
Jeannine was born May 19, 1929, to Gilbert and Adah (Hoover) Snyder in the small town of Sadorus, Illinois, near Champaign/Urbana and the University of Illinois. She graduated from Cedar Lake Academy (a boarding school in Michigan at the time) in 1947. She went on to study pre-nursing at Emmanuel Missionary College (now Andrews University) and then back to Hinsdale, Illinois, to complete her nurses training in 1953.
In 1956 she made a permanent move to Niles and worked in Drs. Garrett, Fattic, and Peshka’s office next to Pawating Hospital (Lakeland Niles) where she remained until she passed away from health complications of a stroke at the West Woods of Niles rehab center.
During her life, she enjoyed baseball, lighthouses, US history, and the wonders of Christmas. She had other talents for creativity that blessed many others from her church and family. Jeannine loved to do decorative table arrangements for banquets, entertaining at home, baby showers, and wedding showers. She was never happier than when she was being creative!
Jeannine is survived by her niece, Karen Snyder (Rick Ferris), and nephew, Keith (Beth) Snyder; her five great-nieces and nephews (along with spouses and extended families); and three great-great-nieces and nephews. Her parents, brother, and sister-in-law all predeceased her.
