Edward "Ed" Earl Harden

February 19, 1940 — January 21, 2025

Berrien Springs

Edward Earl Harden, a man of profound kindness and wisdom, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, in Niles, Michigan, at the age of 84. Born on February 19, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, to Wade Herman Harden and Mary Gertrude (Ebertz) Harden, Ed's early years in the bustling city laid the foundation for a life marked by hard work and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.

Ed's journey was one of quiet determination and steadfast loyalty. After completing some college and a plumbing apprenticeship, he built a respected career as a plumber and contractor in the construction industry. His skilled hands and keen eye for detail were not just his trade but his calling, as he helped build and mend the homes and lives of many.

On June 28, 1985, Ed married the love of his life, Patti, and together they created a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Patti Harden, and his cherished children, Trecia Gale Hermann, Tamee Lynn (Claire) Harden, Lannette (John) Kaylor, Rodney Mcomber, John "Stony" (Jackie) Hildebrandt, and Gus (Grace Ouano) Hildebrandt, son-in-law John Hermann and his loving sister Shirley Utt. Ed's light will continue to shine through his nine grandchildren, Chelsea, Tyler, Chase, Garret, Tessa, Steven, Grace, Izzy, and I.J. as well as his three great-grandchildren, Millie, Benji, and Oliver as well as his precious nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his older sister Betty Berzley.

Ed's life was a testament to the things he loved: the tranquility of fishing, the thrill of hunting, the excitement of basketball, and the camaraderie of cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers. An avid woodworker, he found solace in the grain of the wood and joy in the creations he crafted. His passion for John Deere tractors and lawn mower racing with his grandkids brought laughter and adventure to his family's life.

A private and contemplative soul, Ed was a loyal friend, generous and compassionate, with a work ethic that never waned. His love for nature and his highly observant nature made him a cherished companion on any walk through the woods.

Edward Earl Harden will be remembered as a loving husband, a kind father, a wise grandfather, and a true friend. His legacy of love and the lessons he imparted will continue to guide his family and all who knew him. Ed's memory will be held in the hearts of his loved ones forever.
