Eleanor Jean McCalment Fleming, a beacon of love and resilience, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025, at the age of 94, in Stevensville, Michigan. Born on January 30, 1930, in Veedersburg, Indiana, to Omer and Marguerite (Aldrich) McCalment, Eleanor's life was a tapestry of devotion to her family, friends, and community.

Eleanor's early years in Indiana laid the foundation for a life characterized by kindness and a caring spirit. After completing her associate's degree in Secretarial from Andrews University, she embarked on a fulfilling career as a secretary for the Michigan Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Her professional path was paralleled by her role as a homemaker, where she infused her family's life with love and warmth.

The matriarch of her family, Eleanor was predeceased by her beloved husband, Merrill Fleming, her cherished son, Stephen Fleming, and her older brother, Frank McCalment. Her legacy continues through her loving children, Cindy Drier and Tim Fleming, her adored grandchildren, Evan Fleming, Kira Stahlhandske, and Ava Fleming, and her treasured great-grandchildren, Ginny and Johan Stahlhandske. Eleanor's presence will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Eleanor's zest for life was evident in her diverse interests and hobbies. She was an avid gardener, finding joy in the beauty and tranquility of nature. Her love for travel took her to many places, creating memories that she cherished throughout her life. Eleanor's appreciation for the simple pleasures was seen in her fondness for the beach, hiking in nature, and bird watching. She was a frequent visitor to Fernwood, where she relished the serenity and beauty of the botanical gardens. Eleanor enjoyed exploring new culinary experiences and especially loved gelato on a warm summer’s day.

Not one to shy away from adventure, Eleanor continued water skiing even at the age of 65, showcasing her remarkable resilience and active spirit. Her love for her grandchildren knew no bounds, and she was an integral part of their lives, always encouraging and supporting them in their endeavors.

Eleanor's character was the epitome of thoughtfulness and caring. She was the kind of person who remembered birthdays, anniversaries, and important milestones, making everyone around her feel special and loved. Her friends were a testament to her ability to nurture lasting relationships, and she was often the glue that held her community together.
