F. L. “Whitey” Whitehead, 90, of Berrien Springs, passed from this earth on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Jenny’s Place in Berrien Springs.
A memorial service celebrating Whitey’s life will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at Allred Funeral Home, Berrien Springs. Cremation has taken place and burial of ashes will be at Lincoln Township Cemetery at a later date. Online memories may be shared at www.allredfuneralhome.com. Whitey was born February 17, 1927, in Dell, Arkansas. He was migrant farm worker making the harvest as a young boy with his family each year until 1945 when he went into the US Army to serve his country until 1949. He then went to work at Auto Specialties Manufacturing Company in 1950 as a fork truck driver and retired from there in 1980.
He married Helen Cobb on January 25, 1957. He was with her on May 2, 2002, when she passed from this earth. On September 1, 2009, he married Rebecca Twomley and was very happily married to her. Whitey was known for his work ethic during life and devotion to his family, and all who knew him were impressed by his good-natured attitude, as he never had a bad day.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Twomley of Berrien Springs; and his son, Phillip (Pamela) Whitehead of St. Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen (Cobb) Whitehead; mother and father, Ethel and Francis Whitehead; sister, Lorriane; and brother, James.
