Floyd H. Scarlett, 89, of Jones, Michigan passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Cass County Medical Care Facility in Cassopolis.
Floyd was born in a log cabin on July 7, 1933 in West Point, Indiana to Sanford and Maude Scarlett. He was the second oldest of seven children, and his youngest brother, John Scarlett, is the only surviving sibling.
He was preceded in death by his five sisters: Lucille Rowlen, Martha West, Louella Melville, Ann Baker and June Scarlett Nozykowski; and his grandson, Joshua Scarlett.
Floyd married Emily Seilhymer on July 28, 1951, after they had known each other for ten days. The family was affectionately known as the 'gypsies', as they moved often as Floyd was a carpenter who built speculation homes. His unique approach to building was often the talk of the town as he built houses all over the Michiana area, finally settling in Jones, Michigan.
He is survived by his wife; his three children: Angela Scarlett, James Scarlett and Melinda Scarlett-Persaud; and grandchildren: Jolene Scarlett, Jordon Scarlett and Shannon Scarlett-Persaud; and many nieces and nephews.
