Fred J. Huspen of Benton Harbor, formerly of Berrien Springs, beloved father and cherished grandfather, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 at the age of 83.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Berrien Springs. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 13, at Allred Funeral Home, Berrien Springs, and leave messages online at www.allredfuneralhome.com. Fred was born Feb. 7, 1937, in Chicago to Frank and Catherine (Bokor) Huspen. He married Kathryn Flick on Aug. 30, 1958. They were married 46 years until Kathryn passed away in 2005. Together they raised five daughters and three sons.
Fred was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile and his kind, compassionate spirit.
He is survived by his loving companion, Mary E. Gentile; his eight children: Ann (Michael) Peter, Donna (Kevin) Pearson, Margaret (Michael) Devine, Michael (Holly) Huspen, Jean Zeitler, Carol (Mark) Neal, John (Nicole) Huspen and Tim (Angie) Huspen; 13 grandchildren: Brittany Pearson, Patricia (Mark) Gossage, Kathryn (Nick) Rice, Michael Huspen, Matthew Neal, Nicholas Huspen, Julia Devine, Gregory Huspen, Daniel Huspen, Jake Huspen, Jason Huspen, Max Huspen and Denver Huspen; his sister, Barbara (John) Gaffke; and numerous nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
Fred was predeceased by his dear wife, Kathryn; his parents, Frank and Catherine; his brother, Robert; and his sister, Dolores.
