John Martin Hebner

May 13, 1933 — December 1, 2024

Berrien Springs

John Martin Hebner, a cherished husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024, at the age of 91, in his hometown of Berrien Springs, Michigan, where he was also born on May 13, 1933. John's life was a testament to his loving, funny, and faith-filled nature, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

John was the beloved husband of Katherine (Kate) (Freehling) Hebner, with whom he shared a life full of joy and companionship. He was a devoted father to his children, Patti (Tim) Moore, Tammy (Homer) Trecartin, Sue (Randy) Mottl, and Tim (Shelli Draper) Hebner. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Ashley, Abigail, Jonathan, Courtney, and Ceri Trecartin, who brought immense happiness and pride to his life.

John is survived by his three sisters, Martha Wray, Bertha (Frank Halik) Hamman, and Louise (Richard) Bookwalter; and his stepbrothers, William Stewart, Robert (Miriam) Stewart, and Glenn (Shirley) Stewart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Hebner and Rose Emma (Ehlert) Hebner, and his brothers, Carl and Sam Hebner.

For 30 years, John dedicated his skills and hard work to Tyler Refrigeration as an assembler. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his involvement in various associations where he formed lasting friendships and contributed to the community.

John's interests and hobbies were as vibrant and engaging as his personality. He was an avid golfer, enjoying the greens and fairways with friends and family. A master of card games, especially Euchre, John could often be found with a winning hand and a playful smile. His love for Polka dancing was infectious, and he could dance the night away with the same energy and enthusiasm he brought to every aspect of his life.

A man who found happiness in the simple pleasures, John relished the time spent with his kids and grandkids, whether it was watching them play sports or just being together. His trips to the casino were always full of laughter and excitement, and he had a knack for tinkering with equipment, solving jigsaw puzzles, and playing horse shoes. These moments, filled with joy and love, are the memories his family will hold dear.

John's life was one of engagement and contentment. He appreciated every day and lived his life to the fullest, with a spirit that was undeniably contagious. His laughter and love of life left an indelible mark on those around him, and his faith provided a strong foundation throughout his journey.

As we say goodbye to John Martin Hebner, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man loved by many, and a heart that touched countless lives. His legacy of love, humor, and faith will continue to inspire and guide us. Though he may have left this earthly realm, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
