Judy D. Zimmerman

April 16, 1934 — February 7, 2025

Berrien Springs, Michigan

Judith D. (Hill) Zimmerman, a beacon of kindness and selflessness, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, in Saint Joseph, Michigan at age 90. Born on April 16, 1934, in Belleville, Illinois, Judy’s life was a testament to the power of love, education, and faith.

Judy’s journey began as the cherished daughter of Leonard Hill and Freda (Pierce) Hill, both of whom preceded her in death, as did her beloved daughter Londa (Ed) Sweezey. Her legacy continues through her devoted husband of nearly 70 years, W. Bruce Zimmerman, with whom she shared a life full of adventure and love since their marriage on June 12, 1955, in Lansing, Michigan. She was a pillar of strength and inspiration to her two sons, Devin (Elaine) Zimmerman and DaRon (Phyllis) Zimmerman, her siblings Kendall (Marilyn & Pat) Hill and Deb (Rick) Burlingame, her son-in-law Ed Sweezey, her seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, who will carry on her spirit of generosity and compassion.

A lifelong learner and educator, Judy earned a Master's degree in Education and dedicated over 30 years to teaching in the Berrien Springs Public Schools. Her passion for knowledge was infectious, and she led by example, guiding other educators as she spearheaded Teacher Learning Centers. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her role as a Sabath School leader at Pioneer Memorial Church, where she was a faithful member.

Judy’s zest for life was matched by her love for travel. She explored the world with an open heart, finding particular joy in the majestic landscapes of Norway, Switzerland, and the mountains of Colorado. Many will fondly remember her adventures on Merlene Ogden’s tours, where her outgoing nature shone brightly. She visited every continent except Antarctica.

An avid cook, Judy delighted in creating culinary masterpieces for her family and friends. Her talent extended to the art of sewing, a skill she used to craft beautiful garments with the same care and attention she gave to every aspect of her life. Judy’s organizational skills, coupled with her outgoing and teaching nature, made her an invaluable leader and friend.

Those who knew Judy will remember her as the embodiment of love and kindness. She was a woman who put others before herself, a selfless soul who enriched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warm smile, her gentle guidance, and her unwavering support will be deeply missed.

As we bid farewell to Judy Zimmerman, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a legacy of love that will continue to inspire for generations to come. Her spirit, forever etched in the hearts of her family and friends, will guide us as we navigate the path she has left behind—a path illuminated by her enduring light. Judy now awaits the second coming of Jesus, when she will be eternally reunited with family and friends.
