Berrien Center

Julia Cristina Miranda (née Cáceres Thomann) age 81, of Berrien Springs, Michigan, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on the Sabbath, March 22, 2025. Julie, as she was affectionately known, was a beloved daughter, sister, friend, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Born in El Espejo, Chile on June 18, 1943, she immigrated to the United States as a young woman. She settled in Berrien Springs, where she met and fell in love with Alcides Miranda. The two were married on April 4, 1971. Al and Julie were members of the Village Seventh-Day Adventist Church for many years, and in recent years were members at the Eau Claire Spanish SDA Church.

Julie loved Jesus and was an example of His love to all who met her. She loved to share His message with others, and was engaged in various outreach activities with her church. Throughout her life, she touched everyone who met her with her gentle kindness, warmth, and a beautiful smile. She was nurturing and a natural caregiver, and ran several adult foster and nursing homes in her younger years. With a love for flowers, pink, and all things frilly, she spent many years making floral arrangements for the important moments in her loved ones’ lives. Julie was a gifted artist, and loved to paint and draw. She worked at Andrews University for many years at Lamson Hall. She also worked as an arts and crafts instructor at the university, which she fondly remembered as her favorite job.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Alcides Miranda, and their three children: daughter Jessica, and sons Alcides Jr and Allan, as well as their son-in-law Gregory and daughters-in-law Bronwyn and Kiera. Julie was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be deeply missed by her nine grandchildren: Anthony, Nikolas, Olivia, Madison, Brandan, Arianna, Corinna, Dalaney, and Liam, as well as her six great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Hannah, Anson, Avery, Holden, and Remington. She is also survived by her sister Graciela Cáceres, who resides in Chile, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents Orlando and Marina Cáceres, as well as her siblings: Victor, Norma, Iris, Nora, and Carlos.

The family has chosen not to hold a memorial service at this time. To remember Julie, they are establishing the Julie Miranda Memorial Fund. Donations will be used to refurbish the windows of the Eau Claire Spanish SDA Church, in accordance with Julie’s wishes.
