Leon Catherine Snyder, 97, of Berrien Springs, died Friday, May 25, 2018 at The Whitcomb in St. Joseph.
She was born October 18, 1920, in Medora, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence “Pete” and Iola Elliott. She moved with her parents to Michigan, where she graduated from Benton Harbor High School. She married Dale Snyder on September 26, 1941. During World War II she traveled with Dale to California for his Army training, and she worked as Rosie the Riveter. For many years she worked as a secretary for the Berrien Springs Public Schools. In retirement she was a devoted volunteer at The Journal Era and at the Courthouse in Berrien Springs.
Leon is survived by her daughter, Suann (Duane) Gulliver; daughters-in-law, Suzanne (Doug) Snyder and Anne (Mike) Snyder; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, and her sons, Douglas and Michael.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Allred Funeral Home in Berrien Springs, where friends may visit with the family beginning at noon. Burial will be in Long Lake Cemetery, Berrien Springs. Online memories and messages may be left at www.allredfuneralhome.com.
