Lucille Kay Duffy

August 4, 1942 — April 26, 2016

Lucille Kay (Ashby) Duffy, 73, of St. Joseph passed peacefully on April 26, 2016, in Riviera Beach, Florida.

Lucille, better known as Kay, was born August 4, 1942, in Benton Harbor. She was the daughter of the late George and Gladys Ashby.

A memorial service will be held in her honor from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at Allred Funeral Home in Berrien Springs.

Kay enjoyed singing, participating in her church, gardening, helping those who needed it, and her and her husband’s dogs, but most of all time with her family. She was also an accomplished go-kart racing national champion in the late 1960s. Kay and her husband also spent time traveling and singing with the Evangelists for the Florida Seventh-day Adventist Conference.

Kay was diagnosed with emphysema in her mid 40s. She and her husband Mike moved to Florida in 1988 to help ease her breathing troubles. In August of 1999, she received a successful double lung transplant surgery and enjoyed many extra years because of someone’s generous organ donation. She will be greatly missed as a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her father, George A. Ashby; mother, Gladys M. Ashby; brother, Butch Ashby; and sister, Sue Ashby.

She is survived by her sister, Patricia Ashby; brother, Kenneth Ashby; husband, Mike Duffy; her three children: Kendra Truhn, Rick King and Jim King; her five stepchildren: Michelle Duffy, Michael Duffy, Danny Duffy, Darlene Duffy Mclaughlin and Dale Duffy; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her two dogs, Dr. Stapples and Pebbles.

Services assisted by Allred Funeral Home, www.allredfuneralhome.com.
