Marcella Buechter Ewalt, 98, of Berrien Springs, died Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Royalton Manor in St. Joseph.
She was born July 6, 1918, in St. Elizabeth, Missouri, the daughter of Joe and Christina Buechter. She married Frank Ewalt on May 18, 1946, in St. Louis and moved to Berrien Springs where they lived all their married life.
Marcey was a founding member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church parish in Berrien Springs, an officer in the church altar society, and a long-time volunteer at the Berrien County Youth Fair. She enjoyed line dancing at the local Senior Center, was an enthusiastic supporter of Berrien Springs school athletics, the Greater Berrien Springs Recreation programs, and a devoted Cubs fan.
She is survived by four sons: Ron (Sammy) of Gainesville, Florida, Russ (Linda) and Phil (Virginia) of Berrien Springs, Doug (Carla) of South Bend; and a daughter, Mary (David) Chatelain of Irons, Michigan. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a sister, and a brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 22, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church on Rose Hill Road in Berrien Springs. Visitation will be at the church from 5 - 8 p.m. Sunday, May 21, and again Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
