Margaret Rose Halliwell, 74, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 23, 2024, at her home in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Born on September 19, 1950, in Liverpool, England, Margaret's life journey was marked by love, dedication, and a gentle spirit that touched everyone she met.
Margaret's early years were spent in the bustling city of Liverpool, England, where she was born to Kenneth Lee and Rose (McAsey) Lee. When Margaret was ten years old, she and her family crossed the Atlantic to start a new chapter in America.
After living in New York for several years, Margaret and her parents moved to Niles, Michigan. It was there she met her future husband, Philip Halliwell, who was coincidentally born just 25 miles away from her in England. Destiny orchestrated their paths crossing. In 1977, Margaret's life was intertwined with that of Philip when they married on June 11. They soon moved to Stevensville, Michigan and then to Berrien Springs, Michigan where together, they built a life filled with joy and memories. Margaret's role as a mother was one she cherished deeply, raising her two daughters, Christine and Jennifer, with love and wisdom.
She enjoyed spending time on the deck of her home overlooking Lake Chapin. She set up bird feeders and enjoyed watching the songbirds and hummingbirds. If the feeders ran dry, the hummingbirds would often hover at the windows trying to get her attention.
Her legacy continues through her beloved family. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Rose Lee. She is survived by her husband, Philip, who stood by her side for forty-seven years, her daughters, Christine Midkiff (James) and Jennifer Halliwell, her brother, Kenneth Lee, and her three grandchildren, Sean, Kaelyn and Alaina, who will all miss her deeply.
Memorial contributions can be made in Margaret’s memory to the Berrien County Youth Fair or the pet rescue of your choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Allred Funeral Home in Berrien Springs, Michigan. A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
