Michelle Annette Nwoke

May 26, 1961 — February 8, 2025

Berrien Springs, Michigan

Michelle Annette (Mendel) Nwoke, aged 63, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

On May 26, 1961, in Washington DC, our world was made brighter and more beautiful with the entrance of a blessed baby girl named Michelle. Michelle lived up to the divine anointing of her name which means, “Who is like God?” and was a beacon of love and kindness, touching the lives of all who knew her.

Michelle was the adored daughter of John Mendel and the late Marian (Sphor) Mendel. She was a loving sister, to her sister Leanne Sauers (deceased). Her legacy of warmth and compassion lives on through her devoted father (a retired educator); her beloved husband of 33 years, Winston Nwoke, Pharmacist and Owner of Advanced Care Rx; her cherished son Christopher Nwoke, a second-year medical student at Western Michigan University, School of Medicine; and her dear niece, Ugochi Emmanuel, a Radiologic Technologist.

Michelle’s professional journey as a Licensed Practical Nurse was marked by unwavering dedication to caring for others. Her gentle touch and comforting presence were a source of solace to many during their times of need. Her commitment to service extended beyond her work as she actively participated in various associations, always striving to make a positive impact on her community.

A woman of many passions, Michelle found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an accomplished pianist, whose melodies filled the rooms of her home with warmth and beauty. As an avid cook, she delighted in preparing meals, especially her infamous potato salad she would one day feature in her post retirement Bed & Breakfast. We lovingly remember all the sumptuous meals and beautiful memories that brought family and friends together around the Nwoke table and homestead. We look forward to that sweet reunion in heaven where there will be potato salad galore in Michelle’s mansion.

Michelle’s love for gardening was evident in the vibrant blooms that adorned her yard, a testament of her nurturing spirit. Her love for the outdoors also shone through her enthusiasm for camping, where she found peace and solace in the beauty of nature. Her friendly demeanor made her a beloved figure in her neighborhood and beyond, as she never hesitated to extend a helping hand or a listening ear to those around her.

Described by those who knew her as loving, friendly, and faith-filled, Michelle’s presence was a gift to the world. Her caring nature and ability to connect with people from all walks of life were truly remarkable. Michelle’s unwavering faith guided her through life and provided comfort to those she encountered.

As we bid farewell to Michelle Annette (Mendel) Nwoke, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and love. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, and her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Michelle’s journey on earth may have concluded, but the echoes of her kindness and love will resonate for eternity.
