Nancy Lee Whetstone

December 19, 1935 — April 19, 2022

Nancy L Whetstone, age 86, was welcomed home into the hand of the Lord on the morning of Tuesday, April 19, 2022. She was born on December 19, 1935 in South Bend, Indiana. She was a 1954 graduate of Berrien Springs High School. On August 6, 1955 she married Dale Whetstone, the love of her life. The couple met the summer of 1950 while attending the Berrien County Youth Fair.

Nancy and Dale were avid Notre Dame fans, creating many wonderful memories tailgating and attending football games with friends and family. They also enjoyed the winters they spent in the warm sunshine of Naples, Florida.

On October 19, 1983, Nancy suffered a broken neck in an unfortunate automobile accident. She bravely carried on, with Dale lovingly caring for her. After losing Dale to cancer in 2009, Nancy continued to live in their home, with help, until March of 2021. At that time, she moved to Westerville, Ohio to be closer to her daughter, Kelly, so she could help care for her.

Nancy was known for her beautiful smile, her love of all things purple and sparkly, and most importantly the custom cards she would make for all those she knew. She would spend hours super-imposing the recipient’s face on the card and customizing the message so it was just perfect. All of those messages came straight from the heart.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Jeff) J. Jahn of Westerville, OH; son, Michael (Cathy) D. Whetstone of Buchanan, Mi; two grandchildren: Kaitlin Jahn of Nashville, TN and Aimee Whetstone of Scottsdale, AZ; and her sister, Donna Neeser of Osceola, IN.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Whetstone in 2009; her grandson, Derek J Jahn in 2015; and her sister, Norma Klemz in 2021.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 25, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Berrien Springs, where Nancy was a longtime member. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, or to Derek Jahn Foundation for Cancer Research at derekjahn.com. Messages and memories may be shared online at www.allredfuneralhome.com.

We know that Nancy and Dale are now dancing together in heaven.
