along with great grandchildren, Julie & Ryan Wilson, Leah Howarth, Emily & Aria Grooms, Katie & Jamie Gaither, Ava, Lilly & Brady Clark. Her husband Henry preceded her on July 4th, 2017.
Pearl graduated as a Registered Nurse from Walla Walla College in Washington with a bachelor of science degree in nursing.
She married Henry Herzog December 27, 1955 in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. And in 1961 they moved to College Place, Washington. In 1968 she moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee where she worked as a nurse at several different hospitals. From there she moved to Berrien Springs, Michigan in 1972 where they planted their roots. She retired from Pawating Hospital and took on babysitting her 3 grandchildren, Crystal, Matthew and Marc. She was always busy playing with her grandchildren whether it be hide & seek or climbing trees with them, they were always her first love.
Pearl enjoyed having her niece and granddaughter live with her as they went to school at Andrews University & Academy. And took in many into her home as they needed help. She enjoyed visiting her daughter, Barbara & son-in-law, Bill in Vermont, and her niece, Becky (who passed away due to Leukemia in the fall of 2020) along the way in Quebec, Canada. She enjoyed helping out at Neighbor to Neighbor, and was involved with the Retirees. She loved baking banana bread for all her friends and neighbors. Before her stroke in August 2020, her granddaughter, Lindsay came to stay with her. She was so happy to be able to spend so much time with her and her dog, Roxy and cat, Blackie. She never enjoyed animals much until these pets moved in with her.
After her stroke in August 2020, which paralyzed her left side, she went through rehab and due to hospice believing she would not survive long, her daughter, Darlene brought her to live in Buchanan with her and her husband to help care for. She then moved into West Woods of Niles Nursing home in October of 2020 as her health improved. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. She will be greatly missed by all. She touched so many lives around here.
