Rachel Lyda (Brittain) Kohles, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, in Niles, Michigan, at the age of 85. Born on April 14, 1939, in Morganton, North Carolina, Rachel's life was a testament to her loving, kind, and gentle spirit.

Rachel was the beloved wife of Harry Kohles, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage since their wedding on June 17, 1959, in Bladensburg, Maryland. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of family. She was a devoted mother to her children, Kevin (Paula) Kohles, Diana Casey, and Beth Bikichky. Her love and guidance were a beacon of light in their lives, and her legacy lives on through them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Brittain and Thelma (Tyner) Brittain, her cherished son, Dr. Brian (Monica) Kohles MD, her son-in law Christopher Bikichky, and her siblings, Joann Forshee, Victor Brittain, and Donald Brittain. Rachel's memory will be forever held in the hearts of her surviving brother, Howard (Jean) Brittain, her eight grandchildren, Michael (Erin) Kohles, Kayla (Michael) Wicker, Nicholas Kohles, Daniel Kohles, Randall Kohles, Gabrielle Casey, Steven Casey, and Jordan Bikichky, and her two great-grandchildren, Keira Kohles and Eli Kohles, who brought her immeasurable joy and pride.

Rachel's journey in education was marked by determination and a passion for caring for others. She received her GED and went on to earn her LPN, dedicating her professional life to serving as a nurse in nursing homes. Her compassionate care and warm presence were a comfort to many during their times of need.

A member of the Pioneer Memorial Church, Rachel's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She found strength and solace in her church community, and her commitment to her faith was evident in her everyday actions and the love she shared with those around her.

Rachel's interests were a reflection of her vibrant personality. She loved to stay connected with friends and family on Facebook, play games on her phone, and solve puzzles on her iPad. An avid follower of the news and a fan of English mysteries, she kept her mind sharp and her curiosity piqued. Rachel's love for children was boundless, and she took great joy in babysitting and helping to raise her grandchildren, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.

Those who knew Rachel will remember her for the love she freely gave and the kindness she showed to everyone she met. Her gentle nature was a comfort to those in her care, and her strength was an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Rachel's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of love, care, and devotion. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were touched by her grace and compassion. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the memories of those she leaves behind.

As we say goodbye to Rachel Lyda (Brittain) Kohles, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love and cherished moments. Her legacy of kindness and gentle care will continue to resonate in the hearts of her loved ones for generations to come.
