Ramlen Kaumpungan

Ramlen Kaumpungan, 67, of Berrien Springs died March 9, 2018 in Los Angeles, Calif. after a brief illness.

Ramlen is survived by his wife, Jenny (nee Dimpudus), and their three children: Inne (James) Flaherty of Chicago, Daniel (Christine) Kaumpungan of Los Angeles, and Reinhard Kaumpungan of Berrien Springs. He is also survived by a grandson, Michael; soon-to-arrive granddaughter, Inez; brothers: Novry, Brents, Matheos, and Steven; and sisters, Deli and Engelin. He is preceded in death by both parents, Marten Kaumpungan and Pemina Gara; two brothers, August and Marson; and a sister, Ratni, all of Manado, North Celebes, Indonesia.

Ramlen was born as the fifth of 10 children on September 1, 1950, in Manado, Indonesia. He graduated with a bachelor's in business administration from Universitas Advent Indonesia (UNAI) in 1976. He and Jenny were married in 1978, the year he began a 12-year stint as a treasurer in various offices of the SDA church throughout Indonesia, including a clinic in Tanjung Karang, a hospital in Medan, and the church conference union office in Kupang. His last position as a treasurer was at his alma mater, Adventist University of Indonesia (UNAI) in Bandung for five years.

In January of 1990, Ramlen and his family moved to Berrien Springs, where they have resided for the past 28 years. In those years, Ramlen and Jenny worked and eventually became owners of Jenny's Place, an Adult Foster Care Home. Although formal membership was with the Pioneer Memorial Church family on the campus of Andrews University, Ramlen has attended the Filipino-American (Fil-Am) and Indonesian Church congregations of Berrien Springs over the years.

It is with great sadness that the Kaumpungan family announce his funeral service to be at 9 a.m. Sunday, March 25 at the Pioneer Memorial Church Youth Chapel (8655 University Blvd, Berrien Springs) and a burial service at Rose Hill Cemetery following the service.
