Sandra Kay Porter

Sandra Kay Porter of Berrien Springs passed away on July 20, 2023 after an illness.

Sandy was born on February 6, 1956 to Elias and Wanda (Keck) Salas in Seymour, Indiana. She moved to Berrien Springs in 1970 and graduated from Berrien Springs High School in 1974. She married Robert “Bob” Porter in 1976. They spent 46 wonderful years together raising their family and spending time with lifelong friends.

Sandy enjoyed baking, sewing, quilting and anything arts and crafts. She was known as the “Snow Fairy” for many years when she crocheted slippers for elementary classes and loved to teach her children and their friends how to cook, knit, and sew. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and her family spent many years camping at Sandy Pines, enjoying time with friends at the lake. Sandy loved caring for others and will be greatly missed.

Sandy is survived by her daughter, Nicole Porter; her son, Matthew (Ashley) Porter; and her granddaughter, Vivian Porter. She is also survived by her sisters: Diane Kring, Lisa (Bill) Davis, and Susan (Jim) Graham, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Porter and her parents.

A visitation to honor Sandy will take place at Allred Funeral Home on Thursday, July 27 from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 28 at Berrien Springs Methodist Church at 11 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs.
