Shirley Ann Winslow Hamilton, née Wheeker, went to sleep in Jesus on December 24, 2021.
Shirley was born on July 6, 1926, in Detroit, to Lillian Mae (Truscott) and Frank Charles Wheeker. She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings: George Wheeker, Natalie Weaver, and Beverly Leffler; her husband, Richard Winslow; and second husband, Leon Hamilton.
She is survived and greatly missed by her eight children: Pennie (Lew) Carrington, Dennis (April) Winslow, Judy (Robert) Sommers, Nancy (Stephen) Blosser, Barbara (Kelvin) Krantz, Linda Winslow, John Winslow, Brenda (Mark) Anthony; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Shirley attended Almont High School and graduated from Adelphian Academy, then continued her education at Emmanuel Missionary College (Andrews University), eventually graduating with a teaching degree from Wayne State University.
She retired from the Lapeer, Michigan Public School system after teaching Kindergarten – 3rd grades for 33 years. After moving to Berrien Springs, she enjoyed working at Apple Valley Market and volunteering at Berrien General Hospital, Your Story Hour, Neighbor to Neighbor and several other community organizations. She was an avid puzzle maker, loved to read and enjoyed cooking, cooking programs, and tasting new foods.
She was a dedicated, prayerful Seventh-day Adventist Christian who loved going to church, and eagerly looked forward to meeting Jesus and spending eternity in heaven.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 16, at the Buchanan Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3115 Niles-Buchanan Road, Buchanan. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs. Share a memory online at www.allredfuneralhome.com.
