Susama Bairagee passed away early in the morning around 7:10 am on February 22, 2017 at her eldest Son’s abode, here in Berrien Springs, MI, at the ripe old age of 90.
Susama was the daughter of the Late Pastor Upendranath Halder and the Late Mrs. Hashshomukhi Halder. She was born November 28, 1926, in the village of Aambari in the district of Kushtia, in Bangladesh. She was also the great granddaughter of the late Pastor Ananda Halder, who was one of the first six persons to be ordained to the ministry of the Seventh-Day-Adventist Church in Bangladesh. Susama was fortunate in marrying a humble and dedicated man, Samuel Kumar Bairagee on March 13, 1943, in Gopalgonj, Bangladesh.
As a servant of the Lord, Susama always stood beside her husband as he was engaged in the denominational services of the SDA church in Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan from 1943 to 1982, until the time of their retirement. During this long period she also served as the Food Matron in various SDA schools such as Jalirpar and Monoshapara. All throughout her life she was always loving, eager to care for the poor and needy, especially to the unfortunate students who made their way in and out of our schools in Bangladesh. She would always find a way to share whatever food, clothing, and even her own pocket money. As she was only able to finish her own education up until the sixth grade, her generosity was also a means which she used to motivate students, inspiring them to be diligent in their studies.
She is survived by two daughters, three sons, three daughter-in-laws, 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are the husbands and wives of her married grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 20, 1986.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017 from the Allred Funeral Home at 12 noon, with Pastor Howard Tello officiating. Visitation at the funeral home will begin at 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs, MI.
What a hope we have in Jesus Christ our Lord, in whom we find assurance to be able to again one day see all our dearly beloved risen from slumber, cloaked in the glorious light of God. We eagerly wait to see that beautiful day of His second coming when the chains of mortality fades away and all the faithful in Christ are lifted up into the arms of our Loving Heavenly Father.
