Thomas J. DeWind, 57, died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Tom was born Nov. 8, 1960, in Zeeland, Mich., to Frank and Ruth DeWind, the third of eight children and only son. He received a B.S. in Biochemistry from Andrews University, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and M.D. from Loma Linda University.
Tom married Sally Hammond on July 11, 1982. They have two daughters, Janna (Atniel) Quetz and Katie DeWind of St. Joseph, all of whom survive him.
The couple resided in Redlands, Calif., while Tom did his graduate studies and residency in radiology. Upon completion, they moved to Apple Valley, Calif., where Tom worked primarily at Victor Valley Community Hospital. In 2005, the family moved to St. Joseph, and Tom became a partner in Radiology Associates of Berrien County. He served as the group’s president for a number of years.
Tom was an active member of the Stevensville Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He had a dry sense of humor and was very generous with his time and money. God was his first priority, followed by family and work.
In addition to his parents, wife, and daughters, he is survived by his sisters: Annette DeWind, Natalie (Joe) Marocco, Amy (Randy) Hubble, Lynell DeWind, Jennifer (LeRoy) Ward, Rebecca (Sean) Mattingly, and Leah (Trent) Bowen; and many extended family members.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Village SDA Church, 635 St. Joseph Ave., Berrien Springs. Online messages www.allredfuneralhome.com.
