Tommy Don Hines, a truly beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, self-made man, and icon of Berrien Springs, passed away peacefully in his home Tuesday, July 13, 2021 with his loving wife, Teresa, and his little buddy, Scooter, by his side, fulfilling his last wishes.
All who knew him also knew his strengths, kindness, easy-going style, yet fierce zest for life and that he lived his life the way he wanted to. He was not only so loved and respected but also feared by some, appropriately so. He has taken a piece of our hearts with him.
Don was born in Fox, Arkansas in 1938 to Tom and Muriel Hines and came to Michigan at the age of 16 on his own. He owned and operated Topper Bar in Berrien Springs from 1974-2004 and was lovingly known as “The Owner”. Topper Bar is where he met Teresa Lynn Fletcher in 1981, and they married October 12, 1996, truly a match made in Heaven. Topper is also where he met and made the many, many friends and wonderful people that he loved so much.
Don loved the outdoors and was a hunting and fishing buddy to many. He was also so much more and would do anything he could for anyone.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at Allred Funeral Home, Berrien Springs. Memories may be shared at www.allredfuneralhome.com. It was his wish that any donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Berrien Springs High School Football Program and the Animal Aid of Southwestern Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Buddy Hines; his two-day-old baby son, Christopher; and brother, Chuck Hines.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa; daughters: Sherry Hines of Bradenton, FL, Theresa Hines of Sister Lakes, Cindy (Hines) Sellarie (Terry) of Perry, FL; and brother, Eugene Hines (June) and their son, Cale Hines, of Asheboro, NC.
