Valerie Fay Zelmer-Bailey

Valerie Fay Zelmer-Bailey, 54, of Buchanan passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, July 25, 2016.  Allred Funeral Home, Berrien Springs, was entrusted with arrangements for cremation following a private viewing. Online messages for the family may be left at www.allredfuneralhome.com.

Valerie enjoyed being outside in nature. She had an amazing green thumb, like her Grandpa Zelmer. She loved music and dancing. Her unconditional love and welcoming spirit were felt and received by many people. Val was warm and kind to all.

Val cherished, adored and was forever proud of her only surviving son, Mark Franklin Payne II of New Troy. She is survived by her father, Robert (Jane) Zelmer of Berrien Center; her mother, Beverly Zelmer (Ken Clayton) of Baroda; siblings: Tammy (Brandon) Fuller of Niles, Heidi (Jeff) Ruthsatz of Berrien Springs, Robert (Amy) Zelmer of Bridgman, and Roberta Zelmer of Berrien Center.  Val’s nieces and nephews—Brooke Plott, Tara Russell, Brandon Schultz, Leah Zelmer, Maddie Fuller, Zackary Zelmer and Vayda Zelmer—all held a special place in her heart. Val also leaves behind two great-nieces, Amiyah and Alyana Russell; and one great-nephew, Moxon Plott. She was loved by many friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins as well. She will be missed by many.

Val was preceded in death by her grandparents, Paul and Dorothy Zelmer and James and Madeline Dickson; and her cherished uncle, Dale A. Dickson who recently passed. 

Friends can join Val’s family for a memorial celebration at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 30 at Baroda Village Park, 8938 Fourth St. and 1500 Lemon Creek Rd.
