William Michael Hayes

William M. “Will” Hayes, 70, of Baroda passed away at home on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, after a long battle with cancer.

Will was born March 12, 1947, in De Soto, Missouri, to William and Sarah Ann (Dawes) Hayes. He was a 1965 graduate of Crystal City High School. In the late 1960s, Will served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. He loved airplanes and for many years enjoyed making rubber-band-powered free-flight models. Will loved cars and road trips and enjoyed attending car shows. He was also interested in photography and was a member of the Twin City Camera Club. Will was a fantastic cook and loved entertaining friends in his home.

After military service, Will attended The Academy of Beauty in Los Angeles, California. It was there that his teacher stated that Will could cut a head of hair with a piece of a broken bottle and make it amazing. He worked several years at Bullock’s Salon in Century City, California, and then in 1977 opened William and Donald, Inc., a salon in Venice Beach, California, with Max Donald Brown. The pair abandoned Venice Beach for southwest Michigan to be closer to Max’s sister, Cindy. In 1981, they opened a premier salon, Partners Hair Studio, in Stevensville. Will went on to work many years at Scissorhands and Frenz salons.

He is survived by his loving partner of over 35 years (and husband since 2015), Jim Long; sisters: Sharon Morris and Janet Peters of Festus, Missouri, and Janice Roberge of De Soto, Missouri.
