Yolande Olga Robertson, a beacon of light and love, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2024, in Stevensville, Michigan, at the age of 72. Born on August 4, 1952, in Algiers, Algeria, Yolande's life was a tapestry of dedication, warmth, and educational service, woven with the threads of her rich cultural heritage and the love she had for her family and students.
Yolande's journey led her from the Mediterranean shores of her birthplace to the heart of Queens, New York. She attended Andrews University, where she would meet the love of her life, Terry Robertson, on a European study program in Spain. They were married on September 14, 1975, in Queens. Their union was blessed with two sons, Jean-Paul and Didier, who brought immense joy and purpose to her life. Yolande's passion for education was evident in her pursuit of a Master's degree in Elementary Education, a testament to her commitment to nurturing young minds.
Yolande graced the classrooms of several multi-grade elementary schools, where she was not only a teacher but a mentor, friend, and second mother to her students. Her greatest joy over the years was in homeschooling first her sons, and then her grandson. Her gentle guidance and unwavering support left an indelible mark on the lives she touched, and her legacy as an educator will live on in the achievements of her pupils.
Yolande's life was one of connection and community involvement. She was a cherished member of her local church, where her contributions were both valued and impactful. Her vibrant spirit and generous heart made her a beloved figure in every circle she was part of.
Though she is now asleep in Jesus, Yolande's memory will be carried forward by those who survive her: her devoted husband, Terry; her loving brother, Thierry Bouvier; her beloved sons, Jean-Paul Robertson (Trisha) and Didier Robertson, and her cherished grandson, Connor Robertson; and the many friends and colleagues whose lives she enriched. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jean and Paulette Bouvier, whose values and love shaped the remarkable woman she became.
Yolande Olga Robertson's story is one of love, learning, and legacy. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary soul, we celebrate the indelible mark she has left on our hearts and the world. Her spirit, like the lessons she imparted, will continue to inspire and guide us. Rest in peace, dear Yolande; your memory will forever be a source of comfort and strength to all who knew you.
